The Value of a Liberal Arts Education

This presentation explores the value of a liberal arts education in our modern technological society. In addition, it addresses the value of higher education for the individual and for society. Drawing on historical sources as well as current scholarship it discusses the nature of critical thinking and its relationship to problem solving.

Speakers Expertise:

Dr. Thomas Velek has served as a professor of History and Director of the Ina E. Gordy Honors College at Mississippi University for Women for over two decades. He holds two doctorate degrees in law and modern educational history and a master’s in international affairs. His teaching interests include modern European history, history of communism, world wars, and history of industry and technology.
