Tennessee Williams and Classical Antiquity

The ancient Greeks and Romans extensively influenced the works of Tennessee Williams. In this lecture, which is illustrated by slides of Greco-Roman art, the speaker discusses aspects of the classical world that interested Williams and shaped his portrayal of human nature.

Dr. Mark E Clark is an associate professor at Mississippi State University’s Department of Classical and Modern Languages and Literatures. Dr. Clark was the 2020 recipient of MSU’s Humanities Teacher of the Year Award. His research interests include the Greek epics, Latin literature, Roman religion, and the Classical Tradition.
