Mr. Burkett’s presentation examines topics such as Bowie’s Sandbar Fight, Civil War Mules, The Movie “The Horse Soldiers,” Civil War artillery, the history of the town of Washington, American 19th Century Dueling and the Freedmen’s Bureau at Jefferson College.

Harold C. Burkett retired from the Mississippi Department of Archives and History at Historic Jefferson College in 2005 where he served as a historian for 26 years. Burkett’s research interest focuses in on Natchez, Mississippi of which he has published numerous articles in magazines, newspapers, and scholarly journals. His first book,
The Historical Legends of Natchez, was published in May of 2022.
