History Behind the Headlines

This presentation explores the idea that each current event has a history. Ideal for high school and college audiences, it argues that currents events are a sum total of the history that produced them and decision making must be based on an understanding of the history behind the issue. Several examples are used.

Speakers Expertise:

Dr. Thomas Velek has served as a professor of History and Director of the Ina E. Gordy Honors College at Mississippi University for Women for over two decades. He holds two doctorate degrees in law and modern educational history and a master’s in international affairs. His teaching interests include modern European history, history of communism, world wars, and history of industry and technology.
