MHC Responds to COVID-19, Suspends Council Programs

Posted on

The Mississippi Humanities Council believes public health and safety are top priorities. Since cases of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) have now been confirmed in our region, and following the recommendation of the Mississippi State Department of Health, we have decided to suspend all Council programs and events organized by our staff through the end of March.

This includes our March 27th Awards Gala in Jackson. Our hope is to reschedule the event when the public health emergency is over. For those who have already purchased tickets, we will let you know as soon as possible when the rescheduled event will take place.

If there are any public events associated with our grant program or speakers bureau that need to be rescheduled due to public health concerns, MHC is committed to working with any organization in making those arrangements. Any programming partner should feel empowered to make event decisions that meet the needs of its audience. We expect all organizations to provide updates regarding postponements and cancellations to MHC, so we are able to update our records and calendars.

If you have questions or updates related to programs, please contact the following:

Grants: Carol Andersen – carol@mhc.state.ms.us
Speakers Bureau: Molly McMillan – mmcmillan@mhc.state.ms.us
Awards Gala: Stuart Rockoff – srockoff@mhc.state.ms.us

We encourage you to stay informed about the situation and follow the recommendations of the State Department of Health and the CDC. We believe during this time of public crisis, it is important to take all necessary precautions while remembering our common humanity. In the end, we are all in this together.
