Mississippi Latinx Art Association Partners with University Anthropologists to Host Free Folkloric Art Workshops in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. This program is financially assisted by the National Endowment for the Humanities through the Mississippi Humanities Council.

What to Expect:

Join us for a unique and enriching workshop where we dive into the ancient art of crafting spirit dolls. These enchanting dolls, made from simple materials like wooden sticks and fabric scraps, are not just decorative objects; they hold personal messages and serve as powerful symbols of intention, protection, and spiritual connection.

Spirit dolls have been a part of human culture for centuries, appearing in various forms across the globe. In many Native American cultures, spirit dolls are used in healing rituals and ceremonies. Similarly, in European folklore, poppets are crafted as protective charms. In African and Caribbean traditions, dolls are often used in spiritual practices to represent ancestors or deities.
