Reverend Wheeler Parker: Reflection on Emmett Till’s Legacy and America (DSU)

October 22, 2018 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

As part of a collaborative effort with Northeast Mississippi Community College,  Delta State University will host Reverend Wheeler Parker, cousin of Emmett Till who witnessed Till’ abduction in August 1955. This event will take place on the DSU campus in Cleveland, in the Jobe Hall Auditorium at 7:00PM. In 1955, Reverend Parker and emmett Till traveled from Chicago to the Mississippi Delta to visit family members. In order to help a new generation of Mississippi Deltans learn about the kidnapping and murder of Emmett Till, Reverend Parker will recall Till’s life, offer recollections of what happened after the murderers’ trial, and share his thoughts on Till’s legacy and Mississippi history. Dr. Charles Westmoreland, DSU associate professor of United States history, will moderate the conversation. Also, the audience will have the opportunity to ask Reverend Parker questions.
