Humanities Teacher Award winner Renee Moore (Mississippi Delta Community College) presents her public lecture, “The Humanity of Teaching (and Learning) English.” Reception to follow.
Language study represents the heart of the humanities. Any English classroom, face-to-face or digital, knowingly or unwittingly generates powerful interactions of human emotion and intellect. For over two decades, I have researched and written about the teaching of English and the role of teachers, especially in relation to African American students. This presentation explores how teachers and students can approach this most human of subjects with integrity, rigor, and mutual respect.
