Home Sweet Home: L.V. Hull in Community – an exhibition contextualizing the life and work of Mississippi artist L.V. Hull
The Arts Foundation of Kosciusko (AFK), presents a series of public programs that will accompany the December 6-7, 2024, opening of the first exhibition at the forthcoming L.V. Hull Legacy Center tentatively titled Home Sweet Home: L.V. Hull in Community. This exhibition will include artwork by L.V. Hull, photographs of her and her art environment, oral histories with community members, and archival material that contextualizes her life and practice within the community of Kosciusko.
Opening weekend programs include exhibition access; tours guided by community docents; a screening of the documentary film about Hull Love is a Sensation with Q&A with director Yaphet Smith; and an oral history collection program led by humanities expert and friend of Hull Georgia Wier. The programs will complement Home Sweet Home by situating Hull’s practice within the broader story of art and history, including African American history, in Mississippi, the South, and the United States.
