The performance is a theatrical adaptation of the award winning children’s book Voices of Freedom Fannie Lou Hamer Spirit of the Civil Rights Movement authored by Carol Boston Weatherford. The actors are faith, school and civic community members in Winona and the counties of Mongomery and Carroll.
Voices of Freedom chronicles Mrs. Hamer’s life from childhood through the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago. At the conclusion of each performance, there will be an opportunity for audience members to ask questions and share commentary of their experiences.
