Students worry about grades more than content in courses. When a test, an essay, or a major assignment goes wrong, many students may torpedo themselves in a course—stop turning in work, drop the course, or simply stop attending–rather than mastering the content and learning new skills, both of which would ultimately lead to success in the course. While content and new skills are important, the struggle to master them is even more important to long term success. Learning to overcome the obstacles is a skill that translates into every future endeavor students will undertake.
