Ellis Marsalis: Jazz is Spoken Here

Along with a screening of the award winning film Ellis Marsalis: Jazz is Spoken Here, the speaker discusses the process of the film’s making and how successful completion of such major projects can be accomplished in a state like Mississippi. He will speak about why everyone should “Dare to Dream” and how hard work and perseverance will bring that dream to fruition. The influence and significance of renowned educator/jazz pianist Ellis Marsalis and his sons Branford, Delfeayo, Jason and Wynton Marsalis will also be discussed along with the multi-faceted value of education and art.

Speakers Expertise:

Dr. David Miller is an Associate Professor of Music at Alcorn State University. Miller has been the Events Director of the Alcorn State University Jazz Festival for the past 30 years.
